Local Non-Profit Organization Helps Women
Transition Into Workforce and Achieve Self-Sufficiency
Albany, September 20, 2007 – Albany Community Action Partnership (AlbanyCAP) announces the October 24th opening of their new program, Dress for Success® Albany. As a new affiliate of the international nonprofit established in New York City in 1996, the program helps women overcome obstacles to obtain employment and advance their careers. An integrated program of AlbanyCAP, the Community Action Agency for Albany County, Dress for Success Albany will not only provide professional interviewing outfits but will provide an opportunity for all participants to take advantage of comprehensive programming focused on developing economic and social self-sufficiency.
This summer, AlbanyCAP became the only local affiliate of Dress for Success Worldwide and was awarded a grant of $20,000 in start-up funding from Albany County. The versatility of AlbanyCAP programming and its community partnering network, creates a unique environment cultivating each woman’s social and economic support network. In addition to the initial grant, the program is supported through Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) funding and has been awarded $5000 by the Alice Moore Foundation to provide scholarships to Capital Region women involved in the prison re-entry process.
“We look forward to helping women in the Capital Region area gain meaningful and long-term employment,” said Kathleen Cloutier, Executive Director of AlbanyCAP, “the Dress for Success Albany program adds a valuable dimension to our array of integrated programming focused on self-sufficiency.”
“The County is happy to join AlbanyCAP in creating a local Dress for Success program that will help disadvantaged women look and act the part as they enter the workforce,” said Albany County Executive Mike Breslin. “The professional clothing and advice will make a critical difference in getting and keeping a good job,” added Breslin.
